April 9 2022 Free Shredding Event

FREE shredding and electronics recycling event Saturday, April 9, from 10am to 2pm in the front courtyard of Broadview-Thomson K-8 School (13052 Greenwood Ave N.) Put on by Windermere.

– This is a FREE event, but they will be collecting donations for Broadview Thomson’s Food Pantry. If you would like to donate, please bring non-perishable items. Monetary donations accepted. All documents will be shredded on-site.- Items will be recycled with certified processors in the Northwest and not shipped overseas.

Items not accepted: Large appliances (washers/dryers, stoves, dishwashers, etc.), Tube TVs/Projection (Flat screen TVs are accepted), CRT Monitors, Water Heaters, BBQs, Patio Furniture, Exercise Equipment

Pinehurst Flood Risks on FloodFactor.com

FloodFactor.com is a tool for learning about flood risk where you live. The way risk is determined is somewhat different than now FEMA does it, but the website explains the differences. Like some other apps, FloodFactor calls our neighborhood that’s west of 15th Ave NE Pinehurst and the part that’s east of 15th Ave NE Victory Heights. You can type in the address of your residence to pinpoint the analysis. Here is sample information about Pinehurst:

Kids’ Art in Pinehurst Pocket Park

This April features six year old Azra’s jungle painting. How many animals do you see in this beautiful piece? Stop by the park and check out Azra’s delightful art in the kiosk at the corner of NE 117th St & 19th Ave NE.

Lake City Farmers Market Opens June 16

Lake City Farmers Market will open this year – 2022 – on June 16th and run through October 6th on Thursdays, 3 pm to 7 pm. It’s in front of the Lake City Library on 28th Ave NE just north of NE 125th St.

March 30 Fundraiser at Zylberschtein’s Deli

In support of Ukraine, Zylberschtein’s Deli, 11752 15th Ave NE, will donate 3% of net sales from online and in person orders Wednesday, March 30th.

It will donate the funds to The Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle’s fund for Ukraine relief overseas. The money raised will go overseas and be allocated by Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) based on their ongoing communication with many organizations on the ground in Ukraine, Israel, and surrounding countries.

Litter and Recycle Bins for Pinehurst

Pinehurst Community Council has a litter pickup route through Adopt-a-Street, though it’s not very active at the moment. But Adopt-a-Street contacted us to see if we would like litter and recycle bins in 1 or 2 Pinehurst locations. They must be in commercial areas, so that’s probably 15th Ave NE, Roosevelt Way NE, or the north side of Northgate Way. Another criteria is NOT near existing SPU garbage cans.

We’re probably getting one set at the Atrium strip mall on 15th (where Zylberschein’s Deli is). If you have any ideas for where a second set could be placed, please email us at info@PinehurstSeattle.org.

Here’s what they look like. They’d get picked up regularly by the company that already picks up garbage.

2022 Pinehurst Pocket Park Work Party Success!

Thank you to all who came out to weed and mulch the pocket park. It was great to get together and to meet new neighbors! One person is missing from the photo – Carol, who with her husband made the park’s Little Free Stick Library.

North Precinct Advisory Council Minutes for March 2022

March’s guest speaker was Anne Bettesworth, Deputy Director of SPD’s Office of Police Accountability. She explained what OPA does and how to make a complaint about an officer.

North Precinct’s liaison to the City Attorney’s Office explained how to deal with squatters in vacant homes.

Precinct captain cited some good news and bad news year-to-date crime statistics compared to last year: North precinct overall crime is down 29%, whereas the city as a whole is up 15%. Burglary is down 34% and larceny theft is down 42% in our precinct. But robbery is up 51%, with some marijuana stores getting robbed by more than one armed person descending on them; aggravated assault is up 25%; motor vehicle theft is up 47%.

Pinehurst Pocket Park Work Party

9:30-11:30 am, Saturday March 5, 2022

Please come on out if you want to help with the annual sprucing up of the PPP! A couple hours of work make a big difference in the appearance of our local park for the rest of the year. The pocket park is at the corner of 19th Ave NE & NE 117th St.

We’ll spend some time weeding and then spread fresh bark mulch. Bring your favorite weeding tool and a bucket. A pitchfork and wheelbarrow would also come in handy.
