Drop-In Bridge at Seattle Bridge Center (Jackson Park)

cardsDo you play bridge? Do you wonder what it's all about?

Bridge is an exciting and challenging card game played by
millions of people worldwide. Come learn a little something
about the game, play a few hands, and connect with other
bridge players in our area.

On Tuesday evenings from 7 to 9 pm, Drop-In Bridge is hosted at Seattle
Bridge Center near Jackson Park. This is a time for informal discussion
of bridge topics for players of all levels including the complete
novice. Usually we play several hands, and discuss interesting aspects
of each one.

Drop-In Bridge is free; donations are accepted and all ages are welcome.
Young children should be accompanied by an adult. Seattle Bridge Center is
located at 1539 NE 145th St, immediately south of the QFC and Dollar Tree,
and can be reached via Metro routes 64, 65, 73, 77, 308, 347, 348, and 373.
There is also plenty of free parking.

For more information, contact Seattle Bridge Center (206/282-6414) or your
Tuesday-evening host, David Dailey (206/200-2086).

Pinehurst Pets – Charlie and PeeWee

CharlieAndPeeWee

Charlie and PeeWee have been roommates since January. It took a little while for Charlie to learn how to “be gentle” with the little dog – they often play with Charlie lying down and they roll around and tussle from that position.

If you’d like your pet featured, please send a photo and its name and a short description or story to nancy@pinehurstseattle.org.

Kids’ Art in Pinehurst Pocket Park

Evan-Train-6

Six year old Evan drew this train scene at Pinehurstfest.  Its shades of blue are a combination of crayon and marker. Right now it’s adding pizzazz to the pocket park. Go see his art in the kiosk this month at Pinehurst Pocket Park, NE 117th St and 19th Ave NE. Thanks, Evan!

If you would like to submit your child’s artwork for the Pocket Park, please email nancy@pinehurstseattle.org. We’ll put it on mat board donated by FRAMEIT Ltd, 10712 5th Ave NE.

Uptick in Parking Garage Crime

SPD says this summer there is an uptick in secured parking garage crime. Here are some tips from them:

Here’s a beautiful photo taken on a beautiful summer day at NE 115th St and Pinehurst Way. Thanks to Paul P. for this! I especially love the clouds.

This is actually a couple blocks south of our border, but I was amazed to see an erratic in the area, so here it is. Have you seen it?

You can pick and choose what to help with (and just do an hour shift if you want) so don’t be intimidated. It’s fun and volunteers are how all the events in the neighborhood happen. If you’re interested, please email info@pinehurstseattle.org.

  • Setup (starting around noon)

  • Pinehurst Pocket Park Kids’ Art table (shifts from 2-5pm)

Silver Kite Community Arts

croppedchalkCommunity members of all ages will contribute to a chalk mural on Saturday, July 18, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., as Silver Kite Community Arts kicks off its latest series of inter-generational art experiences. In collaboration with artist Nancy Silvesan-Valdes, participants will turn the George: Center for Community parking lot into a work of art. It’s at 2212 NE 125th St.

“The joy of accomplishing something together is a memory that can be remembered throughout a person’s life, and can be passed down to future generations,” said Silvensan-Valdes, of her desire for families and communities to create together.

Sidewalk Chalk Muraling is the first in a series of monthly Family Art Workshops offered by Silver Kite to encourage creativity, innovation and connection for the whole family as they experience something new together. Each workshop is facilitated by a local professional artist and focuses on offering a new art medium to experience. Families can contribute to murals, bring recycled characters to life, learn new games and dances, and make crafts, time capsules and more! Workshops are held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at George: Center for Community on select Saturdays. All ages welcome, children six and under must be accompanied and supervised by an adult.

$5 for youth and seniors (65+)
