Help Tally Pinehurst’s Cyclists and Walkers

Preparations underway for 2014 bicycle, pedestrian count Sept. 30–Oct. 2. Call for volunteers.

During a three-day survey last year, volunteers counted nearly 66,000 bicyclists and pedestrians across Washington. As another survey cycle approaches, about 400 volunteers will be called upon again this fall to tally the number of people who ride a bike or walk to their destinations.

WSDOT and the Cascade Bicycle Club are enlisting volunteers and organizations such as Feet First and Washington Bikes to help count the people they see bicycling and walking along paths, bike lanes, sidewalks and other facilities Tuesday, Sept. 30, through Thursday, Oct. 2. Counts will be taken at assigned locations in nearly 40 cities throughout the state.

WSDOT’s count is part of the National Documentation Project, an annual bicycle and pedestrian count and survey effort sponsored by the Institute of Transportation Engineers Pedestrian and Bicycle Council. The count will also help measure WSDOT’s progress toward its goal of increasing bicycling and walking while reducing the number of vehicle miles driven.

Call for Working Artists’ Studios for 2015 Tour

Arts North consists of a core group of 5 artist studios located in North Seattle. It is planning now for an open studio tour September 12 & 13, 2015. Boundaries are 145th to the north, Lake Washington to the east, NE 95th St to the south & Aurora Ave to the west. It is looking for additional working artist studios within these boundaries to participate in the tour.

Seattle Parks Invites Pups to the Pool Aug. 17

This pool isn’t quite in the neighborhood but it’s very close. It sounds like a really fun event that people (and their dogs) might enjoy, especially given some of the recent heat. If anybody goes you should comment to let us know how it went or maybe even get some pictures. I don’t have a dog myself anymore or I would be there. 🙂

Sunday, Aug. 17, is truly a dog day of summer! Seattle Parks and Recreation invites pups to paddle in the Helene Madison Pool (13401 Meridian Ave. N) from 1-3 p.m.

This swim is made possible by the pool closure for preventive maintenance from Aug.17– Sept. 1.

Seattle Parks worked with Public Health – Seattle & King County to clear the way for this fun event for Spot and Scruffy. Public Health- Seattle & King County has approved the following guidelines:

The cost is $15 per dog; humans get in free.
Humans are not allowed in the pool with the dogs.
A lifeguard will be on duty.
Dogs must be at least 6 months old and have proof that they are licensed and up-to-date on vaccinations. Licenses can be purchased at the event.
Dogs must undergo a “pre-wash” with the help of Seattle Parks staff, and Animal Shelter officers will inspect them before they go into the pool.
Stairs are available for dogs to enter and leave the water.

After the event, the pool will be drained and cleaned and will undergo its regular preventive maintenance. The pool will be closed to the public during this time and will reopen on Sept. 2.

July 2014 Pinehurst Crime Report

Three of the crimes in the gray dots are car-related, and three are burglaries. Notice how few burglaries there are this month. Car theft/prowl is still a big problem in Seattle, but SPD is working on it.
