Legislation for the rezone of the Pinehurst Safeway site will be introduced by the City Council Planning, Land Use and Neighborhoods Committee this Wednesday, September 9th. The meeting begins at 9 am and discussion on Safeway should start somewhere between 9:30 and 9:50 am. The meeting agenda is here. You can watch the meeting on the internet live here. Everyone is welcome to attend the meeting. ( I plan to be there.) Because this is a quasi-judicial process, no one from the public may make any comments at the meeting. However, thanks to so many of you who submitted comments during the Hearing Examiner process, the record for the project shows enormous public support for the rezone.
The next steps after this meet are expected to be: another discussion at the September 23, 2009 Planning, Land Use and Neighborhoods Committee meeting, possible vote by full Council (and final decision) on Monday, September 28th. If the legislation passes, the new store could open as early as Fall 2010.
