Weekday and Saturday work on 1st Ave NE (between NE 92nd St and NE 100th St)
- Sidewalk, curb ramp, and gutter restoration (work hours are 9 AM – 3 PM on weekdays)
- Paving and striping (work hours are from 7 AM – 5 PM on Saturday, October 3)
Nighttime I-5 median work for long-term single express lane closure
On October 12 & 13, crews will work in the median near the northbound I-5 express lane off-ramp at 1st Ave NE & NE 103rd St. Work will take place between 9 PM – 5 AM.
Exit 174 is the next open exit past the express lane exit at 1st Ave NE & NE 103rd St. During this work, a long-term single-lane closure of the express lane off-ramp will be put in place and the lane will remain closed for approximately 9 months.
From October 13 onward, one express lane will remain open during the regularly scheduled express lane daytime hours of 8 AM – 11 PM.
Nighttime span work begins as soon as October 12 over 1st Ave NE (between NE 100th St and NE 103rd St)
From October 12 through October 16, crews will install bridge beams over 1st Ave NE. 1st Ave NE will be closed between NE 100th St & NE 103rd St (see map below for the suggested detour). Work hours are 9 PM – 5 AM. Work during this time includes:
- Large cranes on site for lifting and placing of temporary beams used to cast bridge girders
- Handrail installation
- Bridge deck work
- Trucks transporting equipment
East side of I-5: 1st Ave NE (between NE 92nd St & NE 103rd St)
In addition to the weekday and Saturday work taking place along 1st Ave NE between NE 92nd St & NE 100th St, crews are continuing ongoing improvements to 1st Ave NE, including the installation of a new protected bike lane between NE 92nd St and NE 103rd St. Work during this time includes:
- Intermittent lane closures along 1st Ave NE between NE 100th St & NE 103rd St from 7 AM – 3:30 PM
- Handrail and walkway construction and installation
- Bridge deck and electrical work
- Installation of temporary support structures
- Temporary pile installation
- Excavation work
- Storm drain repairs and backfilling
- Concrete work for pier columns
- Placing forms and rebar cages
- Placing concrete
- Allowing concrete curing time
- Removing the forms
- Sidewalk, curb ramp, and gutter installation and restoration
- Roadway and ped/bike trail paving
West side of I-5 (north side of North Seattle College and along N 100th St)
- Construction of structural earth wall
- Paving near the bridge approach
- Work hours will be from 5 – 7 AM on October 2
- The eastbound lane on NE 100th St will be closed during this work
1st Ave NE street improvements
When the project is complete, the street will include a new two-way protected bike lane (PBL) between NE 92nd St and NE 103rd St, along the west side of the street. A PBL separates bikes from motor vehicle traffic lanes by using planters, curbs, and/or parked cars as barriers. PBLs also improve safety for riders and make riding a bike a pleasant and practical way to get around. At NE 103rd St, people biking will use the crosswalk to access the east side of the street, where a multi-use path or widened sidewalk will continue north to Northgate Way (see map below).
