March’s zoom meeting featured SPD Sgt. Kevin Nelson, who described the Community Service Officer (CSO) Program. CSOs are civilian employees of SPD. They help residents and businesses involved in non-criminal calls navigate services, engage with communities and neighborhoods, and support programming for at-risk youth. There are 13 CSOs so far, with hopes to expand. The meeting minutes has more information about this increasingly popular program.
Captain Stampfl mentioned that there is a trend of shots-fired. We’ve heard them in Pinehurst. SPD is doing analysis on all the reports (keep reporting!), such as analyzing shell casings found. So far, it doesn’t seem related to gang activity here in the North Precinct. They will keep working on this issue.
