Seattle Public Schools – North End School Capacity Planning Community Meeting

NORTH END SCHOOL CAPACITY PLANNING
Community Meetings Scheduled September 15 and 16

As a result of population growth in some areas of North Seattle, Seattle Public Schools anticipates school capacity issues for north-end elementary schools in the 2009-2010 school year. Seattle Public Schools is in the process of developing alternatives to address these challenges for students who reside or attend schools in the area north of the Ship Canal and in the Queen Anne and Magnolia neighborhoods.

Seattle Public Schools invites families and community members to attend meetings to discuss options for accommodating students for the 2009-2010 school year. The meetings are scheduled to take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, September 15 at Catharine Blaine K-8, located at 2550 34th Ave. W, in the school cafeteria and on Tuesday, September 16 at Roosevelt High School, located at 1410 NE 66th St., in the Commons (also from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.).

There is also a School Board work session on this topic scheduled for Wednesday, October 1 at 4:00 to 5:30 p.m.

While the focus of this initial discussion is the 2009-2010 school year, Seattle Public Schools is working toward a long-term capacity solution.

There is also additional information available on this topic at the Seattle Public Schools website here.
