Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels just released his draft city budget for 2009 – 2010. Here are some items of note in the budget:
Sidewalks and Street Paving. Additional revenue from the commercial parking tax is directed to a variety of programs, but most notably to additional street paving and sidewalk construction. Sidewalk construction is bolstered by an additional $1.5 million in 2009 and $2 million in 2010. In total, the Seattle Department of Transportation expects to build about 26 blocks of new sidewalks in 2009 and repave about 25 lane-miles of streets.
Completing Northgate Park. The proposed budget adds a total of $10.6 million to complete acquisition and development of the new Northgate Park. This park will be built on the site of a King County Metro Park and Ride facility that is moving to a new location in the spring of 2009.
