Setting:
The Cook County Jail. Time: The Roaring Twenties. Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly vie for the full attention of the Press – and celebrity attorney Billy Flynn – as they prepare for two sensational murder trials. Chicago is a rousing story of fame, corruption, fortune, manipulation and heartbreak … and all that jazz Significantly different from the 2002 movie, the musical version employs a distinctly presentational and more abstract theatrical style. Many of the scenes are set “in limbo” and Dan Suiter’s set design and costume designer Deane Middleton’s costumes evoke the glitzy yet gritty Art Deco inspired Chicago of the 1920’s.

Razzle-Dazzle choreography by Crystal Dawn Munkers, who was trained by long time Fosse collaborator Ben Vereen, and the show-stopping music of Kander and Ebb make Chicago a classic crowd-pleaser and one of Broadway’s all-time favorites. Seattle Musical Theatre delivers every delightful moment in this lively production, the second of its current season.

Seattle Musical Theatre (formerly Civic Light Opera) is conveniently located in Magnuson Park, at 7120 62nd Ave NE. Parking is plentiful and free. If you’ve never seen one of our productions, now is the time to give us a try!

Later this season, Seattle Musical Theatre is excited to present their inaugural SecondSeason, a series of two original musicals (Don Giovanni: A New Musical and The King’s Proposal or the Marriage of Princess Guido), as well as mainstage shows The Drowsy Chaperone and Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods.
