I should have included this in the last post. We have started planning for the 2009 event and we welcome more volunteers. We could use additional ideas and help especially in getting word out about the event, planning the activities at the event and soliciting donations to make it all possible.
We are not sure if we can afford to do a mailing as we did last year and we wonder if it would be more personal and effective to have a volunteer from each block/apartment building/condo building/townhouse unit deliver invitations to neighbors.
If we want ice cream, coffee, or other food, we need to find donors (businesses or individuals). We also need help raising funds to pay for any fliers (or mailing if we do it). Last year we had a grant from the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods, but that is a one time only grant and we cannot apply again.
The Meadowbrook Community Center of Seattle Parks and Recreation is very kindly co-sponsoring the event with us again this year. And, they will bring tents!
Some ideas we have brainstormed on so far are (just ideas, not definite): a cake walk, neighborhood bands (we have many musicians in Pinehurst), snow cones/shaved ice (instead of ice cream), choirs or singing groups from neighborhood schools/churches, and bake sales for neighborhood schools/churches (we are researching if this is allowed).
Wanna join us? E-mail or call me: reneeastaton@gmail.com or 206-366-9472.
From an orgainzational stand point we should keep a running list of vendors that we (the group) contact, their response, etc. We don’t want to contact a vendor twice or contact a vendor who has already donated. The running list should be accessible to the volunteers on the Pinehurstfest committee.
