This is from an older post on crime prevention, but here it is again due to popular demand. Unfortunately, graffiti is on the rise again in Northgate.
Graffiti must be removed within 24 hours. You can report graffiti on public or private property (the City will contact the property owner to remind them that it must be removed within 24 hours) by calling the City’s Graffiti Report Line at (206) 684-7587 or use the Online Report Form. Make a police report to (206) 625-5011 when graffiti appears on your property. If you see an act of graffiti vandalism in progress, call 911 immediately.
Lots of new gang graffiti on Northgate Way and 5th Ave this past week. Unfortunately the city ordnance (http://www.seattle.gov/util/Services/Garbage/Reduce_Garbage_&_Litter/Graffiti_Prevention_&_Removal/GRAFFITIN_200312041629544.asp) only requires that it be removed within 10 days. That is ridiculously long. One of the tags I reported last Tuesday had already gotten a rival gang tag on top by Thursday. I hope the cops are paying attention and the gang unit is paying attention to us here in the north end.
