News stations are reporting that a house exploded at 5th Ave NE and NE 123rd St around 6 AM this morning, 9/26. No details yet on what happened!
I don’t know if it is a coincidence, but there was a natural gas leak in the neighborhood yesterday (Sunday) around 2 PM.

Yeah its for sure, I live a block away from it and it definately woke me up.
Does anyone know the people who lived there?
My heart goes out to the man & woman living in the home that was engulfed by flames this morning. If anyone on the Pinehurst blog knows the people who lived in the home please let the Pinehurst community know. Also I’m certain our community would want to help if there are needs we become aware of in the coming days.
Here’s the email I sent to pinehurst-community@pinehurstseattle.org earlier this morning. You can follow these directions to subscribe to our low-volume mailing list: http://www.pinehurstseattle.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/pinehurst-community

By now you’re probably aware that there was a large explosion and fire in the neighborhood this morning. See the blog (pinehurstseattle.org) for a list of articles.
If you smell natural gas anytime and the source is not obvious, call 911.
If you know of any needs for the people affected by this, please post on the blog.
Stay safe.
Eric

The Seattle Times is reporting that the residents of the house which exploded had smelled natural gas but did not report it.
The first natural gas leak in the neighborhood was caused by construction. I wonder if that construction accident precipitated these other leaks.
Call 911 if you smell natural gas!
3 leaks in 2 days within a few blocks? Could be a conincidence, but something doesn’t seem right here.

We’re quite a distance from the fire (22nd NE & NE 123rd) but PSE came by checking for gas leaks this afternoon.
Not sure if we got a personal visit today from PSE, but we did get the automated phone call reminding us of what to do if we smell gas. I’m with John here- three leaks in two days seems a little odd.
I did hear the theory that after Sunday’s leaks and shutoff, they might have had an unlit pilot light or something going, and downplayed the smell after the gas was turned back on (They’d probably been smelling it all day Sunday).
Those poor people. Please keep the blog updated with notices of how we can help.
In case you didn’t hear the explanation for the natural gas leaks from another media outlet, here it is.
Turns out ALL the leaks are related, including three new ones. I’m glad PSE is working on it, not so happy about their initial completely wrong ass-covering response.

I read that David has been released and I’m sure he is spending every free minute with his wife who is still in the hospital in bad shape. I don’t know these folks but a word to those that do. Please set by some sort of fund for them we may contribute to. The paper is still covering this and they can post it for the widest audience.
