The City has signed an agreement with Seattle Union Gospel Mission to run an emergency winter homeless shelter in the old Lake City Fire Station 39. It will be open November 24 through April 1.
In the past year the City sought input from local businesses and residents, though there was no consensus on having such a shelter in the neighborhood. That said, it will undeniably provide much-needed shelter this winter, and the neighborhood should benefit from it being run by an experienced organization.

Excellent plan
If volunteers are needed, let me know.
I like the idea that Lake City can be a place with interesting new businesses like the Elliot Bay pub and also have a place where people can get help during difficult transitions in their lives.
