Looking for a volunteer activity? The Hunger Intervention Program in Lake City provides meals on the weekends to school children in the North End. The program has recently expanded from serving John Rogers Elementary to include Olympic Hills Elementary and Viewlands Elementary.
The group hosts weekly packing parties at its headquarters at Lake City Presbyterian Church, where volunteers assemble meals for students. The “Healthy Hip Packs” provide six meals and two snacks per child. They are discreetly given to students who need the nutrition on weekends when they are not getting meals from the schools.
