update from Feet First:
The Northeast Seattle Trails (NEST) project is developing a walking trail network in Northeast Seattle. Feet First, the National Parks Service and community members have been out in the field and in meetings to map out where people currently walk and what routes they take. Routes will be compiled into an area wide walking network plan and displayed as a Neighborhoods on Foot map. We are gathering information about where people walk in the northeast is through an online survey. If you live, work, or play in or around northeast Seattle, please fill out this survey. In June we’ll have a draft map for the project.
Throughout the summer there will be a series of neighborhood walks. These walks will audit each route to determine if it is acceptable to be a walking route, and to document needed improvements along the route. The first planned walk is June 21st at the Northeast Seattle Healthy Lifestyles Father’s Day Event. The event is at Alber Davis Park by the Lake City Library from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.. Walks will leave every half hour from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
More events will be planned as the summer progresses. If you would like to help coordinate a walk in the northeast, contact Seth Schromen-Wawrin by emailing seth@feetfirst.info or calling 206-652-2310.
