As you may know, Seattle Children’s Hospital has been engaged in a lengthy and thorough two year review process for the approval of its Major Institution Master Plan (MIMP). Last Wednesday, we learned that the Hearing Examiner recently made a recommendation to City Council to deny Seattle Children’s MIMP application— a decision that would effectively cripple its ability to expand and may result in Children’s having to relocate outside the City of Seattle.
The Hearing Examiner’s assessment is at odds with both the Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) and the Department of Planning & Development (DPD), who recommended approval of Children’s master plan after the two year review process and eight re-designs to accommodate requests of neighbors, which included two Hearing Examiner proceedings.
The Hearing Examiner’s recommendation is just that, a recommendation. We hope that Seattle City Council will review the MIMP based on its full merits and make the right recommendation for Seattle.
