We’re trying something new at Pinehurstfest this year. To introduce the Buy Nothing Project to those who don’t know about it, we are hosting a Buy Nothing Kids’ Toy and Book event in the shelter house during Pinehurstfest (well, from 2:30 – 4:30 whereas the festival runs 2:00 – 5:00). You don’t have to be a member of the Facebook Buy Nothing group to participate this time. There will be tables set up in the shelter house. People will bring toys and books they no longer want and set them on the table. If they want a toy or book, they’ll browse the tables and take anything they want – free! It’s a sharing economy. If you like the concept, there will be flyers that tell how to join the Facebook group. On Facebook you can post things you want to give away (not just kids’ stuff) or ask for things you need. No selling, buying or bartering. It’s all free! There are over 500 members of the Pinehurst/Olympic Hills group and the giving and taking is active every day.
