Fun Meet at the Market This Thursday (13th)

This Summer’s Night Out Block Parties Well Attended

Terrie Johnston, our SPD Crime Prevention Coordinator, says that the North Precinct had 760 block parties on August 7th. This is more than all the other Seattle Police Precincts combined. Pinehurst is in the North Precinct, which is all Seattle north of the Ship Canal. Way to go North Precinct!

Police Prioritizing In-Progress Burglary Calls

Pinehurst neighbors have been talking about recent burglaries in our neighborhood on the Pinehurst Seattle Facebook page. Some of the burglaries have been in broad daylight. In fact, most burglaries occur between 6 am and 6 pm when we are less likely to be at home.

Currently, the police are prioritizing 911 calls from people reporting a possible burglary in progress. Do not hesitate to call 911 if you see suspicious activity on your street or at a neighbor’s home. It is better to call and be wrong than to not call and possibly miss an opportunity to thwart a burglary. The police say they are happy to come out to check out a suspicious situation.

North Precinct Advisory Council Minutes for Sept 2012

This month’s guest speakers at Seattle Police Department’s North PAC were Carl Marquardt, Mayor’s Legal Counsel, and Bruce Harrell, Seattle City Council, Chair of the Council’s Public Safety Committee.

Another Little Free Library in Pinehurst

Another Little Free Library in Pinehurst is open for business. It’s right across the street from the Pinehurst Pocket Park in the yard of the beautiful new-ish two-story house on the northwest corner of 19th Ave NE & NE 117th St. This one is made from a nifty kit available for purchase from the Little Free Library website.

Do check it out soon, and support it like you’ve been enthusiastically supporting the library on NE 113th St east of 20th Ave NE. From the level of activity at the 113th St library, Pinehurst is obviously embracing the idea of sharing books. Wouldn’t it be fun if someone exchanged some of the books between libraries once in a while to keep their inventories fresh?

Kids Art in Pinehurst Pocket Park

This week Penny made a drawing for the kiosk at Pinehurst Pocket Park, NE 117th St and 19th Ave NE. Penny drew it at this summer’s Pinehurstfest. Thanks, Penny- it looks great in the park!

If you would like to submit your child’s artwork for the Pocket Park, please email nancy@pinehurstseattle.org. We’ll put it on mat board donated by FRAMEIT Ltd, 539 NE Northgate Way.

Improvements for Hubbard Homestead Park

We’re preparing an application for the Parks and Green Spaces Levy Opportunity Fund to bring adult (senior) exercise equipment and a children’s playground to Hubbard Homestead Park. Please email me (eric@pinehurstseattle.org) to be added to an email list if you are interested in the project. Also, please let me know if you are interested in volunteering to make this a reality. We need volunteers both short-term to help with preparing the application, and if we get funds, long-term to see the project through to completion. Any help is much appreciated.

The skate park is still in the works. I’ll let you know when I have more details.

Take Seattle Parks Planning Process Poll

In embarking on a new planning process to develop strategic direction for the future, Seattle Parks and Recreation is asking three key questions:

· Are its resources deployed in the most effective manner?

· What is the public view of its park system?

· What are the basic services Parks provides?

Parks invites the public to take an online survey, available from August 31 through September 23, here.
