Free Trees for Your Yard

Seattle reLeaf

Seattle reLeaf’s 2012 Trees for Neighborhoods program is underway. Want to beautify your home and neighborhood? Build a healthy community? Here’s your chance!

Trees for Neighborhoods provides up to four trees per household to plant in residential yards. In addition to free trees, participants in the program receive free watering bags, training on proper planting and care of trees, and ongoing tree care support.

Street tree applications are due September 1 and yard tree applications are due October 21. However, many species sell out quickly, so submit your application as soon as possible. To check out the beautiful tree species available and application information, go to:

Kids Art in Pinehurst Pocket Park

This week Lucia’s drawing is in the kiosk at Pinehurst Pocket Park, NE 117th St and 19th Ave NE. Lucia drew  it last week at Pinehurstfest. Thanks, Lucia – you’ve make our park more beautiful!

If you would like to submit your child’s artwork for the Pocket Park, please email nancy@pinehurstseattle.org. We’ll put it on mat board donated by FRAMEIT Ltd, 539 NE Northgate Way.

Pinehurstfest Thanks

We posted some photos of Pinehurstfest on the Pinehurst Seattle Facebook page. Here I just want to thank some participants. First, thanks to these organizations who set up booths this year in spite of the very hot sunny weather (there were some no-shows, which we totally understand):

– Bats Northwest

– Seattle Audubon Society

– Seattle Green Partnership Tree Ambassadors

– Seattle Police Dept Crime Prevention

– Sound Transit

– Thornton Creek Alliance

Thanks to Peder Nielsen for the use of the A-signs we used to advertise the event.

Special thanks to Meadowbrook Community Center for co-sponsoring the event, and for the bouncy castle and crafts table. Thanks also to Seattle Gymnastics Academy for the popular obstacle course setup.

And of course, we thank the three bands who entertained us throughout the event: Blue Madness, Sidewinder, and Flight 420.

Big thanks to Pinehurst Safeway for the cake it donated, yum!

Finally, thank YOU for coming. See you next year!

Reminder: Pinehurstfest THIS Saturday (8/4)

Pinehurstfest is this Saturday, August 4th from 2-5pm!

We’ve already linked to the flier earlier but there are also lots of ways to help make it a success!

  1. Spread the word around the neighborhood!
    • Most of your neighbors don’t read the blog or Facebook so make sure they hear about Pinehurstfest!
  2. Volunteer!
    • We’ll need help setting up, cleaning up, taking pictures, handing out snacks and drinks, and more!
    • Email me at phillip@pinehurstseattle.org for questions
  3. Donate!
    • While we try to keep costs down by keeping it small and local, it’s still not free and donations are very much appreciated.
    • They’re also tax deductable through our event co-sponsor:
Make payable to:
ASSOCIATED RECREATION COUNCIL
(Note: “Pinehurstfest 2012” in the memo field)
Mail it to:
Meadowbrook Advisory Council
