Reminder: Public Hearing on legislation regarding Backyard Cottages in Seattle – Tuesday, September 15th

The Seattle City Council is holding a public hearing regarding Backyard Cottages in Seattle. The public hearing is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers at Seattle City Hall.

The Seattle City Council is soliciting public testimony on the following piece of legislation currently before the Council’s Planning, Land Use & Neighborhoods Committee:

Council Bill 116528

Backyard Cottages—Relating to land use and housing; amending Sections 22.206.160, 23.44.014, 23.44.041, 23.84A.006, 23.84A.008, 23.84A.032, 23.90.018 and 23.90.019 of the Seattle Municipal Code to permit detached accessory dwelling units (backyard cottages) in all single-family zones and to make other changes concerning authorization and use of accessory dwelling units.

Have questions about light rail, crime, city services or other issues? Get answers from your Seattle City Council on Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009 at 6:30 p.m.

The Seattle City Council is committed to making informed decisions that reflect the needs and desires of every community.

You’ll be asked a series of questions on some key issues, including light rail, crime prevention and accessing city services, and we’d like to hear your input. Following discussion on these topics the meeting will transition into an open question and answer period, with ample time for asking councilmembers your questions.

North East Seattle Trails (NEST) Open House – September 29th

Come to see the debut of the new Neighborhoods on Foot map for the North East Seattle Trails (NEST) Project. The map will display the community produced walking trail network as well as local destinations and resources. After the map is displayed, Feet First will be accepting comments throughout October. Read more about the NEST project here.

The open house is at the Northgate Library’s Meeting Room from 6-7:30 pm on September 29th. Drop by during that time to look and comment.

Mail Theft Prevention

A neighbor passed on that some folks in the neighborhood are experiencing mail theft again. Here is a link to a post from last winter with some great suggestions for locking mailboxes.

Community mural celebration at Lake City Community Center – September 25th

Community members and Community Court participants have been at work on clean-up in Lake City since January 2009. As part of their work, they are finishing up a community mural on the west side of the Lake City Community Center, in the Albert Davis Park.

To celebrate the completion, a small celebration will be held at the community center on Friday, September 25th from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm. Cake and coffee will be served. Everyone is invited to attend the event!

Live from PLUNC

Today’s Seattle City Council Planning, Land Use and Neighborhoods Committee (PLUNC) discussion of the Pinehurst Safeway rezone went well. The committee asked Michael Jenkins to prepare a Property Use and Development Agreement (PUDA) for discussion and possible vote at the September 23, 2009 PLUNC meeting. If all goes well, full Council could vote on the rezone at the September 28, 2009 Council meeting.

Seattle Public Schools appeals Ingraham land use decision

Today’s Seattle Land Use Information Bulletin notes that Seattle Public Schools is appealing the decision regarding conditions placed on tree removal in the plans to build new classrooms at Ingraham High School in Haller Lake. An Appeal Hearing will be held on October 14, 2009 at 9:00 a.m. Read more here.

1st Annual Lake City Chamber: Car, Truck & Bike Show, 10/18

Lake City Chamber of Commerce is starting a new event this year: a Car, Truck and Bike Show. The event will be held Sunday, October 18th from 10 am to 4 pm. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Lake City Youth Football. An event flier is below (click to enlarge).
