Last Night’s Pinehurst Community Meeting

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our community meeting at Amante last night! It was a good turnout despite the weather.

Folks enjoyed meeting candidate for Seattle Attorney Peter Holmes and Seattle City Council candidates Sally Bagshaw (Position 4), Marty Kaplan (Position 6), and David Miller (Position 8). Dorsol Plants (Seattle City Council candidate for position 4) and Michael McGinn (candidate for Seattle Mayor) had planned to join us, but had to cancel due to illness in their families. Both plan to come to Pinehurst for Pinehurstfest in July.

At a few points during the meeting there was a fair amount of discussion regarding the challenges faced by cyclists who live in Pinehurst. Perhaps we can focus on Pinehurst cycling issues as one of our future meetings.

*Pinehurst/Victory Heights Residential Burglary Report – April 2009

If you have any questions on crime prevention or if you would like to form a block watch, please contact Diane Horswill (diane.horswill@seattle.gov or at (206) 684-7711) at the North Precinct. Also, there is some good information on crime prevention here.

4/23 500blk NE 125th reported at 11:20AM, the resident came home, parked in his attached garage and turned off his alarm before entering the house, he saw movement through the slinding door at the rear of the house and when he checked he saw 3 teen males outside the door, one had a large rock held above his head and it appeared he was going to throw it and break the glass, when the teens saw the resident, they took off and the resident ran after them while calling 911, the suspects split up but the resident was able to catch up with the one who had the rock, officers arrived and took the teen into custody

4/27 11500blk 23rd NE reported at 7:12PM, a neighbor heard the alarm going off at this house, she looked outside and saw a car she did not recognize backing out of the driveway, she thought she saw a door ajar and a bike hanging part way out, she was also able to obtain the license plate, officers arrived and found broken glass from a side door and a large rock that was probably used, the suspect’s car was not located at the time but there will be follow up

Come one, come all to Great City’s Summer Movie Night. Enjoy an evening under screen and stars at Thornton Place, recently called “Seattle’s first real transit oriented development”, and site of the innovative Thornton Creek Water Quality Channel. In addition to celebrating this pioneering development that is leading the way in Northgate’s rejuvenation, we will also be heralding the arrival of Joshua Curtis as Great City’s new Executive Director and wishing our founding ED and recently-announced mayoral candidate, Michael McGinn, best wishes on his new pursuits. After mingling on the red carpet, you’ll enjoy an introduction by Bruce Lorig, tours of Thornton Place and the newly landscaped green water channel and a free viewing of a movie at the new theater (movie TBD, but with the potential of being in one of the two IMAX theaters!).

Seattle Hearing Examiner rules to protect Ingraham trees

The City of Seattle Hearing Examiner ruled today that a stand of trees at Ingraham High School is a rare plant habitat that must be protected.

Read more here.

We are scheduled to discuss this at our community meeting tonight. But, that will likely be a brief discussion in light of this news.

Ballard? Greenlake? Capitol Hill?

No, this is a new townhouse project in Pinehurst on 14th Ave NE just south of 125th Ave NE. It caught my eye because it is a nice design and seems a bit hipper than some of the other projects that have gone up in the neighborhood recently. I would live here. Check out the listing here.
