Solar Power for Your Home – Meeting March 25th

Announcement COC (1)

March 2015 North Precinct Advisory Council Minutes

Seattle_Police_Badge

This month’s guest speaker, who was going to give an update on the status of the design and build of the new North Precinct headquarters, had to cancel, so we’ll get an update another time.

The good news is that north precinct auto thefts and car prowls are down compared to Jan-Feb last year.  Residential burglaries are down 8%.

The bad news is that street robberies and assaults are up. Many robberies are of cell phones. These two problems will be a focus in the north precinct. Five robbery arrests were made in thirty days.

The noise ordinance is taken very seriously by SPD. Don’t hesitate to call 911 if you are bothered by excessive and inappropriate noise.

You can read all the minutes here.

February 2015 Pinehurst Crime Report

2015-02CrimeMap

Here is a partial picture of Pinehurst property crime for the month. Click on the map to enlarge it. The gray dots represent 5 car thefts, 6 car prowls and 3 residential burglaries. Since we’re having a lot of mail thefts these days, I will start including them in this map.

You can see ALL the types of crime at http://web5.seattle.gov/mnm/policereports.aspx. Select the North neighborhood and enter a date range.

CenturyLink Adds More Non-Pinehurst Neighborhoods for Gigabit

Gigabit Internet continues to expand to more neighborhoods in Seattle. Pinehurst still isn’t one of them, unfortunately. But it’s good to see continued progress. We’ve recently helped organize a lunch and learn and forum on Municipal Broadband and talked about Condo Internet who is also building fiber to the home options in other neighborhoods. A local group, Upgrade Seattle, is forming to help push for better options as well. Sign up to hear more.

http://www.geekwire.com/2015/centurylink-exceeds-initial-estimates-expands-seattle-gigabit-internet-to-five-more-neighborhoods/

CenturyLinkLast August, CenturyLink committed to bringing the high-speed access to 35,000 Seattle households with an announced launch in Ballard, Beacon Hill and West Seattle. By December, the gigabit service was available to nearly 22,000 customers in Ballard and West Seattle.

Today, CenturyLink Vice President of Operations for Washington State Sue Anderson said they’ve passed the 45,000 mark for household access in those initial three neighborhoods. Up next are the neighborhoods of Green Lake, Delridge, Rainier Valley, the Central District and the International District.

District 5 City Council Candidate Forum March 11

checkBroadview Community Council, in association with the Greenwood, Haller Lake, and Pinehurst community councils, is presenting a candidate forum for Seattle City Council District 5. The next election will be the first time seven of the nine positions will be tied to a geographical district instead of to Seattle as a whole. District 5 runs from Puget Sound to Lake Washington, from 145th St. to roughly 85th St. See the official map for details. As you can see, Pinehurst is in District 5. Two of the nine positions will remain at-large.

The forum is Wednesday, March 11, 2015, from 7:00 to 8:30 pm at Bitter Lake Community Center, 13035 Linden Ave N. Doors open at 6:30 for socializing. Come early; seating is limited!

Calling all community council members, neighborhood activists, business advocates, political junkies, civic troublemakers, citizens with a beef, and all other North Seattle voters!

This is the time to meet candidates for Seattle City Council in OUR VERY OWN District 5:

  • Sandy Brown

  • Mercedes Elizalde

  • Debora Juarez

  • Mian Rice

  • David Toledo

  • Halei Watkins

Learn about their background and experience, ask them questions, grade them, and challenge them to be transparent. Decide who might get your donation and/or your vote.
