The Seattle Police Department offers these and more holiday safety tips at:

– If you are traveling, set an automatic timer for your lights and ask a neighbor to check your house and park in the driveway occasionally.
– Many con artists take advantage of holiday generosity by going door-to-door. Ask for identification and get specifics to how and where the donations will be spent/used.
– If you are shopping, carry your purse close to your body, not dangling by the straps. Put a wallet in an inside coat or front pants pocket.
– After the holidays, break down boxes and put them in your recycle bin so passersby don’t see what nice new things you have in your home by what’s in your garbage.
Have a fun and safe holiday season!
