Hello!

What better thing to think about on such an icy cold day than the Maple Leaf Reservoir Park? Here is a quick review and a meeting notice.

QUICK REVIEW:
As you have probably seen Seattle Public Utilities is busy with the burial of our reservoir. Construction began a couple months ago and the plan is for the reservoir to be completed sometime in 2012 (after the reseroivr is completely done, the park development work can begin). They are presently removing the old reservoir before they begin building the cells for the new reservoir.

Seattle Parks Department has named a Project Manager (Kellee Jones) and has also chosen — from a large field of candidates — a landscape architect to help plan our park. You may have recently heard in the news about Cal Anderson Park being named by Forbes as one of the nation’s top ten parks — well, the landscape architect firm that designed Cal Anderson is the group that was chosen for OUR reservoir park project, The Berger Partnership. They are also the landscape architects working on the Beacon Hill reservoir up at Jefferson Park. So we are lucky to be working with an experienced group of people who have worked in the past on other reservoir parks and neighborhood groups.

MEETING ANNOUNCEMENT:
The Parks Department is holding a Meet-n-Greet, Question-n-Answer meeting on Tuesday, December 15th, from 6:30 to 8pm at Olympic View Elementary. This meeting is an opportunity for people who have any questions about the process of the park design meetings and the scheduling of the park design meetings, not details about the design itself. Parks Department staff and Seattle Utilities staff will be available to answer questions. There will be no official presentation, so you can show up anytime between 6:30 and 8pm and you can stay for as little or as long as you like.

If you are unable to attend this meeting, but you have a question, please send it along to me and I will ask it and send the answer back to you. If you have any concerns or suggestions about the process of the park design meetings — something that you think could be done to make it go better or make the choices easier to understand — this would be a great opportunity to talk about that.

Our actual Park Design Meetings will be starting in January 2010. These meetings will be where we can come forward and talk about what we hope to see in our park and how we hope it will work with our neighborhood. It is very exciting that we will be starting to make some progress on what our park will become. As always, if you have any questions or comments, please send them along.

I look forward to seeing you at this meeting if you will be attending. If I don’t see you before the Park Design Meetings in January, have a great holiday season! have a great day.
