New SPD Crime Prevention Coordinator

Until the end of 2011, the North Precinct has a new Crime Prevention Coordinator, Terrie Johnston. After that, her grant runs out and the entire Crime Prevention Coordinator program will be eliminated. Until then, please contact Terrie at 206-684-7711 or terrie.johnston@seattle.gov.  She is available for issues such as:

  • Setting up a block watch
  • Speaking to a community group about personal safety
  • Conducting home security audits
  • National Night Out (August 2nd this year), a block party to organize neighbors against crime

Another save-the-date is the North Precinct picnic on Saturday July 9th. Fun, food, music, booths!

And here’s a reminder from yesterday’s meeting of the North Precinct Advisory Council: don’t leave your car keys by the door of your home. If a burglar enters your house, it is too easy to also steal the car if the keys are visible by the door. Store keys farther in the interior of the house. You don’t want the thief to use your own car to haul away your stuff!

Art in Pinehurst Pocket Park

Lucy-5thGradeA big thank you to Lucy, 5th grader at Sacajawea Elementary, for loaning us her outstanding Egyptian drawing to beautify our little park. Come by and take a look! It’s at 19th Ave NE and NE 117th St.

I’m sure there will be admirers Sunday, when neighbors attend the annual spring park clean-up. It’ll be nice to have a bright spot at this event!

Can Use a Few More Volunteers for Adopt-A-Street May 14 Event

So far four Pinehurst neighbors have signed up to pick up litter for our Adopt-A-Street event May 14th. We could use four more to make the work go quicker. Please consider helping out; you get to wear a cool green vest and wield an awsome arm-extending bionic grabber, not to speak of the fun of finding weird trash. No prizes for claiming the weirdest, but you get lots of awe and admiration. 🙂  See the original post here for more information and how to sign up.
