Want a Better Transit System? Tell SDOT What You’d Like to See!

Getting around Seattle can be tricky—everyone has waited for a delayed bus in the rain, driven to work to save time, or needed room for just one more bike on the train. Maybe you wish the bus stopped closer to your house or was easier to get to on foot or by bike. We know you have ideas about how transit should be improved, so here’s a chance to share your take with the city.

The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) is updating Seattle’s Transit Master Plan, which will help to determine the city’s future investments in transit. As part of this process, SDOT is conducting a short survey to figure out what’s working and what isn’t in Seattle’s transit system. The survey takes less than 10 minutes and asks some basic questions about how you currently use transit and what you’d like to see improved. Throw in your two cents at http://www.seattle.gov/transportation/transitmasterplan/survey and check out  http://www.seattle.gov/transportation/transitmasterplan.htm for more information about the plan.

Responses by January 13, 2011, would be appreciated.

*Pinehurst Residential Burglary Report: November 2010

We’ve had another good month!  Please remember to report burglaries to the police so they have a good idea of what’s happening in our neighborhood.

If you have any questions on crime prevention, or if you would like to form a block watch, please contact Diane Horswill (diane.horswill@seattle.gov or 206-684-7711) at the North Precinct.

11/08 1000blk NE 125th  the victim came home to find her back door had been kicked in, jewelry and keys to her home and car were stolen.

11/27  12000blk 8th NE  the victim is in the process of moving and has been out of the house for several weeks, when he returned today he found his television had been stolen, there was no sign of forced entry.

11/29  12500blk 3rd Ave NE  the victim left the house in the morning, a few hours later a relative came by and saw that the victims television was lying on the kitchen floor, he contacted the victim who came home and found a window screen removed, the window was open and undamaged so it may have been left unlocked, a laptop and an I-pod had been stolen, the TV was left behind because the screen had been broken when the suspect was removing it from its wall mounting, the victims large dog was in the house during the burglary.

This Week’s Art at Pinehurst Pocket Park is by Liam

Liam S., a first grader at Sacajawea Elementary, drew the festive holiday picture that’s in the Pinehurst Pocket Park kiosk this week.

A big thanks to Liam for sharing!  Come see the art in the park at NE 117th & 19th Ave NE.

Pinehurst Bumper Stickers!

We get quite a few questions on the bumper stickers you can occasionally see around the neighborhood and Renee suggested that I repost the info on them. We don’t have any more printed but you can order your own. Or, if there’s a lot of interest let me know and we can do a larger order for everybody to get the nice bulk savings.

Oh, and thanks again to Karla for originally designing these!

Volunteer for Adopt-A-Street Work Party January 8th

Our community council has joined the City’s Adopt-A-Street program.  Starting small, we’ve signed up for these streets:

  • Pinehurst Way NE – from Roosevelt Way NE to NE 125th St
  • NE 115th St – from 20th Ave NE to Pinehurst Way NE

Our second work party will be Saturday, January 8 at 10 a.m.  We’re looking for about 6 volunteers.  Our October cleanup took 4 people 2 hours.  I’ve ordered grabbers, rubber gloves, safety vests and a sharps container.  If you are interested in helping, please email nancy@pinehurstseattle.org.

Our commitment is for four cleanup events over a year.  Volunteering for this event does NOT commit you to future work parties.

If you participate, you’ll sign a volunteer sign-in sheet that gives you insurance coverage during the event.  I’ll go over safety precautions with everyone.

Information about the City’s program is at: http://www.cityofseattle.net/util/Services/Garbage/KeepSeattleClean/Adopt-A-Street.

Let’s keep our neighborhood litter-free!

Weather / Flooding Info

I was just sent the following weather post as well as info for how to prevent local flooding. Given what I’m seeing in the upcoming weather, it sounds like it’d be a good idea to brush up on those tips.

There’s also the main Seattle Public Utilities page for Storms and Flooding in Seattle.
