World of Tastes in the Heart of Lake City

WorldOfTastesThis program to support local establishments will run until September 29th 2016. Each participating business will have passports to hand out. You can get one at Kaffeeklatsch at 12513 lake City Way. You can also pick up a passport at the Lake City Farmers Market at NE 125th St & 28th Ave NE, and they will be made available at various public events throughout the program. Take the passport to each participating business, buy something, and they’ll stamp it for you. For the Farmers Market, visit the Market Booth to receive your stamp.

Passports with enough stamps to qualify for a prize should be returned to the Kaffeeklatsch by close of business on September 29th. This year there are three levels of prizes indicated on the back of the passport so that more people can take part in the fun. Winners will be chosen at random and one winner from each of the three tiers of prizes will be awarded. Winners will be contacted via the contact information on the passport within one week of the closing of the program.

Taking part in this program supports some of the most treasured Lake City Businesses. You can partner with friends, family and neighbors to qualify for the drawing on whatever level is comfortable.

It also helps remind us that we need to retain our small businesses that provide Lake City with its “flavor” and bring attention to the fact that it is up to us as a community that we need to work to keep them here. The program also can help to attract potential new businesses to the area. And not least, you may try some businesses you’ve never been to before, and discover a new favorite.

North Precinct Advisory Council Minutes for July 2016

SPDbadgeThis month’s guest speaker was Elliot Helmbrecht from SDOT, speaking about projects on the Levy to Move Seattle that we approved in November. It’s a 9 year, $930 million levy that replaces the old 9 year $365 million Bridging the Gap levy that expired. Read more about this in the minutes.

Crime statistics for June were good! Larceny (theft) & residential burglary were the lowest month all year.

Here’s a tip for calling 911 – If you call about a suspicious person, tell the 911 operator what he/she is doing that looks suspicious. This provides the deployed officer a clue, and may be probable cause to stop the person.

The precinct picnic is this Saturday (7/9) from 11 – 4 at Ballard Commons Park (5701 22nd Ave NW) during Ballard Seafood Fest. The picnic features free music, food, children’s activities, door prizes and more.

Read all the minutes here.

Looking for Volunteers for Pinehurstfest

We could use some help at Pinehurstfest. Volunteering is a great way to meet your neighbors, plus it’s fun! Here are some of the tasks: help set up before 2:00, help take down after 5:00, hand out cake, make and hand out popcorn.  Please let us know at info@pinehurstseattle.org.

Kids’ Art in Pinehurst Pocket Park

OverlapStilllife-EliSeven year old Eli made this wonderful ink still-life. It was a study in overlapping at an art class taught by Pinehurst artist Victoria Raymond. We didn’t want the original to fade, so there’s a nice big photo copy of it matted in the park kiosk. The pocket park is on the corner of NE 117th St & 19th Ave NE. Take a stroll over there to have a look!

Pinehurst Pedestrian Safety Group

Thanks to everybody who came out to the Pinehurst Community Council meeting on Tuesday!

For those who couldn’t make it, we spent a good portion of the time discussing pedestrian safety improvements around Pinehurst, particularly around the new Hazel Wolf K-8 school.

At the meeting, people shared lots of ideas about specific spots that need improvements, strategies we could use, and reasons it’s so urgent. I particularly liked the idea to make sure the Pedestrian Advisory Board is well-represented with members from North Seattle where sidewalks are missing.

We’re looking to create a group to help organize around these improvements. There’s more details in Dai’s earlier post.

We’ve created an email list where we’ll continue the discussion online though we’ll also continue to engage here on the website and in the Pinehurst Facebook Group. You can join below if you’re interested and please pass it on to your friends and neighbors!
