Free Trees for Neighborhoods Available

Pinehurst TreesThrough the City of Seattle’s Trees for Neighborhoods project, Seattle residents can apply for up to 4 free trees for our yard or planting strip. Participants receive trees, water bags, mulch, and planting and care instruction. While many of this year’s smaller ornamentals have sold out, there are still a number of larger conifers available, including: western red cedar, bald cypress, grand fir, Siberian spruce, and western hemlock. If you can provide them room to grow, they’ll provide you many benefits in return!

To learn more about this year’s species and to apply, please visit: http://www.seattle.gov/trees/treesforneighborhoods.htm

Pinehurst Pets – Ceiba Bunny

CeibaBunny-Meredith

This is Ceiba Bunny.  She’s a sato that her family brought back from Puerto Rico.  She’s modeling a scarf her person made for her nephew. What a great pose! [editor’s note – according to Google, ‘sato’ is a Puerto Rican slang term referring to a mixed breed dog.]

If you’d like your pet featured, please send a photo and its name and a short description or story to nancy@pinehurstseattle.org.

This delightful northwest scene painted on the side of the garage by the homeowner isn’t visible from the street. But now we can see it here!

Please feel free to send in photos of art – or anything unexpected and fun – you see on your walks around the neighborhood to info@pinehurstseattle.org.

New Bulletin Board at Pinehurst Pocket Park

BulletinBoardNow anyone can post a notice on the kiosk at Pinehurst Pocket Park. Until now, only two of us who have keys could post under the Plexiglas window. Garth, the prior Pinehurst Community Council president who was instrumental in getting the pocket park, has been thinking for some time about how to open it up to more public use. So he designed a bulletin board for one side of the kiosk, and another Pinehurstian, John, built it. They were actually about to make bulletin boards for both sides, but that No Smoking sign suddenly appeared and it sticks out into where the bulletin board would go.

Due to the small size of the kiosk, the bulletin board is smallish, so if you can post on 3×5 cards, or some format smaller than a whole sheet of paper, more notices will fit.

Thanks to Garth and John for this useful addition to the park!

2015 Property Valuations

HouseAndAppleTreeOn August 6, 2015, the King County Assessor’s Office mailed the 2015 property valuation notices for Area 8, which includes Pinehurst. Residential properties in Pinehurst increased 15% on average; however, your individual property value may vary.

The office also launched LocalScape, a new interactive online app to track area and individual property value changes online, along with other neighborhood data including census, education, permits, and sales. One may track property value changes specifically for Area  residents here. Individual property value history is available by selecting the “My Property” tab.

The King County Assessor’s Office annually revalues all properties, and conducts a physical inspection on each property once every six years. The 2015 property values are set as of January 1, 2015 and assessed at the full market value based on sales of comparable properties in the same area.

Some low-income seniors, disabled veterans, and disabled persons retired because of a disability may be eligible for a property tax deferral or exemption.  The King County Assessor’s Office encourages you or those you know to contact the office to determine eligibility.

For advice and assistance on property tax related matters, including appeals, contact the King County Tax Advisor at 206-477-1060 or by email at taxadvisor@kingcounty.gov.
