No reminder for today? Awww. The signs around the neighborhood for this event were fairly bad. Tiny print and not really readable from the car for the masses of us locals driving by. Have a simple PINEHURSTFEST SAT 16TH 2-5 for the top half next time.
The lack of a bouncy house(toy?) was a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge disappointment since it was promised to my son. After his tears passed, he was stuck being assaulted by the first band’s overloud out-of-tune “jamfest” that was painful in a number of ways. When a bunch of kids are holding their ears back on the playground there is definitely a problem. =\
The bags of sports balls that weren’t being used was confusing too.. were those for kids or something? Hrmmm. We did get some of the free lemonade though and made a nice donation. I just wish things were fixed up a little more and the kids had some more active events to do.

    • I’ll try to go through what I can in order…

They’re the same signs from last year that have been re-used. If anybody has a better design (bigger lettering) they want to print out and laminate I’d be very happy to use that next year.

And I’m really sorry about the bouncy house. We had it ready but the rain in the morning caused Parks to balk. Apparently when it’s wet on the grass it gets wet it both gets dangerous and VERY hard to clean up afterwards. And they just didn’t have enough volunteers to handle that. I tried multiple times once the sun came out but it just didn’t happen early enough. Again, I’m really sorry.

As for the balls and bats and such. They were for kids if anybody wanted. They were getting used quite a bit from what I saw but there was mostly just a LOT of them so it didn’t look like it. They were just in the shelterhouse when we opened it up so I put them out there. What was confusing exactly?

And again, if you have suggestions for specific kids events or want to help organize or run anything be sure to let me know. (phillip@pinehurstseattle.org) Everything that goes into this event is run by volunteers and we’re always looking for suggestions.

Yeah I assumed the bouncy house not being there was out of someone’s control somehow… it was just pretty disappointing. I’d say next year before the event try to put a call out for help advertising (signs, etc) and see who is up for helping out. It just didn’t feel like it was known by a lot of people beforehand or when the signs were out.

The bats and balls and stuff is a minor thing, but they were just at the top of the stairs in a bag sort of under a table. Didn’t exactly scream “public toys” and there wasn’t a sign near them or any volunteers actively pushing kids to play with them. When I first showed up (came the back way across the field) we passed a single lonely bat and ball on the field and we thought that some other kid had brought it so we didn’t play with it. Not a big deal, it just felt like the beautiful field/hill/walls should have been used more somehow with all the antsy kids.

Not trying to be negative.. just pointing out things that could be improved upon for next time. Thanks for working to put everything together.
