Seawall Open House

A bit further afield but it’s a big project which will affect the whole city…

The City of Seattle is holding an open house to discuss the seawall replacement. This issue has been getting a lot of coverage recently. Here’s a chance for the city to explain their arguments, answers questions, and get feedback. Given the connection to the Alaskan Way Viaduct project, I’m sure there will be lots of questions. I’ll be at the North District Council meeting but if anybody makes the meeting, please share what you hear in the comments.

DATE: Wednesday, February 3rd
TIME: 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
LOCATION: Bertha Knight Landes Room, City Hall, 600 4th Avenue
Refreshments will be served.

From 5:00 to 5:20 p.m. Deputy Mayor Darryl Smith will welcome guests and introduce the
Seattle Department of Transportation to present information regarding the seawall replacement.
From 5:20 to 5:30 p.m. The Department of Finance will present information on the proposed funding plan.
From 5:30 to 6:00 p.m. Department staff will be available to provide additional information and take comments
from the public.

Seawall Project Manager Stephanie Brown at 206-386-4635 or via e-mail at stephanie.brown@seattle.gov.

Please Remember to Vote!

After the school post I wanted to remind everybody that there’s a ballot out right now for the February 9th special election. It contains Seattle school levies.

Capital Levies (Proposition No. 1) provide the funds to renew and replace aging buildings with modern and efficient facilities. In addition, capital levy and bond funds are used for improvements in athletic fields, classrooms, technology and mechanical equipment.

Operations Levies (Proposition No. 2) support core SPS programs by providing nearly 25 percent of the funds for the District’s day-to-day operating expenses. These funds help pay for teachers instructional assistants, full-day kindergarten, sixth period at high school, student activities such as drama, music and athletics, and security and student transportation.

Ballots can be dropped off at drop boxes thought here aren’t many of them anymore. Otherwise, you’ll have to mail it.

Company at Seattle Musical Theatre

A Pinehurst neighbor sent in a special promotion on behalf of Seattle Musical Theatre for their upcoming show, Company. I have been to multiple shows and always enjoyed myself.

SMT (formerly known as Civic Light Opera) is in its 32nd season and is located within Magnuson Park. We are the only large theatre in Seattle’s NorthEast neighborhood and the only one in Seattle to produce strictly musicals.

We hire local designers, actors and crew and operate on a budget funded by ticket sales and donations. We need our neighbor’s support!

If your readers call our box office (206-363-2809) and mention the code NORTHEAST-NEIGHBOR they will receive $5 off regular ticket price AND a drink voucher to use at our brand new bar!

Seattle Musical Theatre presents Stephen Sondheim’s groundbreaking musical Company. The story follows Bobby, a perpetual bachelor in a group of married friends. Set in 1970s New York, it explores the dynamics of relationships and love as Bobby struggles to make a commitment.

Dates & Times:
