Could this stolen property be yours?

From Seattle Police:

Between December 2 and 11, 2008, the Seattle Police Department’s Major Crimes Task Force (MTCF) uncovered a large crime organization involving at least 11 suspects who were committing various crimes including Burglary, Auto Theft, Car Prowl Thefts, Trafficking in Stolen Property and Drug Trafficking. Over the course of 10 days, MCTF detectives served multiple search warrants in the East, West and North precinct areas. Hundreds of suspected stolen items were recovered during the investigation, to include medical equipment, which was stolen in a car prowl in the north precinct area; this equipment is valued at over $1.4 million. Over the last 3 weeks MCTF detectives have been processing the recovered property. Based on the investigation, MCTF detectives confirmed the crimes were committed in the Seattle area as well as the city of Bellevue. This crime ring may have also impacted other jurisdictions. MCTF detectives are now prepared to distribute photos of the recovered property for crime victims to view. Detectives have prepared a CD with over 500 photographs of the recovered property for local area news outlets to present to the public.

If a Seattle citizen was a victim of crime where property was stolen, and the crime occurred prior to December 11th, 2008 we would like them to view the photographs and attempt to identify their stolen property. A police report of the crime is necessary, along with documentation of ownership (i.e. purchase receipt, serial number, owner applied number etc.) The Seattle Police Department has established a message line for victims related to this investigation. If an item is identified the citizens should call the Seattle Police Department at 206-684-4381. Citizens should leave a message that must include the following, their name, case number, a description of the stolen item and the item number from the photo they viewed. Citizens may also email their name, police case number and a detailed description of their stolen property to pawn.goods@seattle.gov . MCTF detectives will follow up on all information received in an effort to return these property items to their rightful owners. South, West and North precincts have been provided with a Compact Disc of the stolen property. You may stop by one of the listed precincts during regular business hours, 9a.m. to 5 p.m., to view the disc.

You should call the precinct before you stop by to ensure the disc is available.

South Precinct- 3001 South Myrtle St.- 206-386-1850
West Precinct – 810 Virginia St. – 206-684-8917
North Precinct- 10049 College Way N. -206-684-0850

The Kitchen Coach Cooking School

Last summer, both of our kids went to cooking camp at The Kitchen Coach in Maple Leaf (right behind Cloud City Coffee).

They learned proper cooking techniques, made friends, gained independence in the kitchen and brought home wonderful food (I hate the word “gourmet”, but you could probably use it to describe the type of food) that they had made. On the last day of class, the kids prepared and served a multi-course evening dinner for their families. It was a great experience for the kids and stands out as one the highlights of their summer.

One of my favorite moments during the week was an evening when my son lectured me on how “crappy” our knives are and explained the qualities needed in good kitchen knives. We did not buy new knives, but I was excited to see that he was learning from the class and I enjoyed his passion for it.

My daughter also went to a one day camp right before Thanksgiving where she made pies (apple, pumpkin and one of the best pecan pies I have ever had) for Thanksgiving.

Kitchen Coach has classes for both kids and for adults and they also do special classes for birthday parties, friends and work groups. And, Deb Brownstein who runs the school also does professional catering through Mangia Bene Catering. You can learn more about all that they do here.

More Pinehurst Bloggers

Erica responded to my post about improving the Pinehurst Blog, that she would like to see some posts about neighborhood pets and gardens. She has done three posts below. I think it is a great idea. And, I would love to see more folks from the neighborhood writing about neighborhood issues, stories, people, businesses and more that you care about. If you have a dream to blog, let me know.

Pets of Pinehurst #2 Dogs on the Bed

At our house, dogs are allowed on the bed.

In the summer we enjoy sleeping on the deck — Heather and Wilke liked to sleep outside with us — under the mosquito netting!

We are blessed to have EXTREMELY fabulous neighbors and, unsurprisingly, they also have very nice animals. Juno was the dog they had when they first moved in two houses away from us. Juno was a Very Good Dog. She stayed with us when her folks went on vacation. She particularly liked our house because we had put our mattress on the floor so that our very, very elderly dogs (16 and 19 years old) could get up on the bed with us. Juno liked to sleep on our bed too!

Juno’s gone now, and so are my dogs, but we still think of them all with a lot of love and miss them a lot (and we’re thinking we will get a new dog in February!)

Coyotes in Pinehurst

Several years ago, I was getting ready for work, drying my hair, so I couldn’t hear very well. But eventually I notice that the crows were making an enormous racket out front. I went outside to see what was going on and there was a coyote with a dead cat in her mouth about 6 feet from my front yard. A dead cat that looked exactly like Greta. I yelled at the coyote as if she were a dog, “you DROP it!” To my surprise, she did drop it! Once I made sure that it wasn’t MY CAT, I was sad that the mama coyote didn’t get a meal. I went quietly back in the house and a little later the coyote came back and took the dead cat away. One thing I always felt sorry about was that I didn’t make any posters to let the owners of the missing cat know.

We’ve learned to keep our fabulous kitties INDOORS from dusk til dawn — we’ve had coyotes in our yard or in the neighbors’ driveway twice that we “know of” in the past two years. Coyotes are not uncommon in Seattle. The West Seattle Blog has a series of recent articles about coyotes in their area. The PI ran an article in 2005 about coyotes in Wedgewood.
