Do you have a street or park project that you would like to see happen in Pinehurst?

A sidewalk? A crosswalk? Traffic calming? Curb bulbs?

Once a year, community members throughout Seattle nominate neighborhood projects for consideration for funding through the Neighborhood Street Fund and Cumulative Reserve Subfund (aka the NSF/CRS). This is a competitive process and many worthy project ideas are submitted. But, submitting a project is important because it tells the city what is important to neighbors and it helps to draw attention even to projects that may not get funding from NSF/CRF.

The 125th street sidewalk is a Pinehurst project that recently received funding from NSF/CRF.

If you submit an application, please let me know so that I can let John Sullivan (our Pinehurst representative to North District Council, the group that decides which projects receive funding) know so that he can let you know the status of your application, answer any questions that you have and help to advocate for Pinehurst projects.

Deadline for applications is February 27, 2009.

Serendipitous Northwest Perennial Alliance Garden Group connections

Tonight I met with my neighborhood garden group from the Northwest Perennial Alliance http://www.northwestperennialalliance.org/ The members of our “clump” live in Maple Leaf, Wedgewood, Ballard and Pinehurst, we meet once a month and share garden ideas, information and just hang out.

Two new members, Cheryl and Mark joined us tonight. First I found out that they are close neighbors, living on the street behind ours. Then I discovered that their property adjoins my next door neighbors, Norah and David on the back of their property line — You may recall that David and Norah are the owners of the chinchilla and Juno, the dog that likes to sleep on my bed, as well as a number of other Pets of Pinehurst.

Apparently Cheryl and Mark have met my cat Jasper. I know that he visits all the people on our street, so I should not be surprised to hear that he jumps fences and sleeps on their lawn furniture from time to time! Still, it is funny, and I’d LOVE a photo!

1/29 Public Meeting: Design Review for Townhouses

The Department of Planning and Development (DPD) invites you to attend a Public Meeting on the topic of Design Review for townhouses in Seattle. The purpose of the meeting is to provide information and take public comment on a project to expand the City’s design review to cover more townhouse developments.

This project re-examines the City’s administrative or staff level design review (not the design review process for developments that are reviewed by the citizen Design Review Boards).

Pinehurst Pet of the Week: Mr. FuzzyPants

Mr. Fuzzy Pants is a chinchilla who lives with his guardians, David and Norah. Chinchillas are crepuscular rodents — which means that he is most active at night and rests during daylight. He doesn’t like light and so he isn’t crazy about flash photograpy.

Chinchillas are native to mountainous areas of Peru. Mr. Fuzzy Pants has to take regular dust baths to maintain his fur, which is unbelievably soft! Softer by far than any cat, even softer than rabbit fur.

More images of the proposed Pinehurst Safeway design

I just received some additional images of the proposed Pinehurst Safeway design. These include the 16th Ave perspective and an aerial perspective.

Also, I am still gathering information, but have learned that Safeway is proposing to use permeable pavement for the project. This is one of the significant asks made by the community for the store. With permeable pavement, the bioswales issue that I have mentioned previously would not be needed. The idea of using either permeable pavement or bioswales is to reduce the stormwater runoff from the site. I will do another post on the pavement once I have more information.
