Join the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) at an upcoming open house to learn about the Transit Master Plan (TMP), share your feedback, and see where we’re going from here.
The TMP is a 20-year vision for transit in Seattle. SDOT recently released the draft report, available at http://www.seattle.gov/transportation/transitmasterplan.htm.

· The open house will run from 6 – 8pm and will begin with a brief presentation and overview. You’ll then have a chance to walk around and view project boards, talk to staff, ask questions, and provide comments.

At tonight’s North Precinct Advisory Council, a representative from the City Attorney’s Office told us what one apprehended residential burglar told officials about his methods: he said he didn’t pay any attention to alarm system signs because he knows he can get in and out of a home before anyone responds to the alarm. He also said he scopes out homes beforehand. He lingers nearby to see when residents leave and return. The representative also said that many burglaries are through open or unlocked doors and windows.
What are the lessons here? Don’t rely entirely on alarm systems. Lock your doors and windows. Be a good neighbor and stay on the lookout for unusual behavior on your neighbor’s property and don’t hesitate to call 9-1-1 so the police can check it out. The police tell us time and time again that watchful neighbors are the best crime prevention and that officers are happy to respond to calls about suspicious behavior. And they tell story after story about how citizens have helped police arrest criminals by calling 9-1-1 in this way.
We were also told that a lot of residential burglars are minors who leave school at lunchtime, steal stuff, and then go back to school. As a matter of fact, most burglaries are in the daytime, not at night.

There were two indecent exposure incidents in the past two days, one at the Pinehurst Playground and one at Lakeside. Watch out for this guy. From the SPD blotter:
Suspect may be involved in 2 exposing incidents

On 10/2/11, at approximately 5:00 p.m., two 13-year-old females, were swinging on the swings at the Pinehurst playfield in the 12000 block of 14 Av NE, when the suspect walked up to the them and made a comment. When the victims turned to look at the suspect he had his genitals exposed and was masturbating. The suspect then ran away southbound on 14 Ave NE. The victims ran to a nearby convenience store and reported the incident to an off duty officer. An area check for the suspect was negative. The suspect is described as a white male, 22-29 years old, fair complexion, slim build, goatee and black hair. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with a white design on the back, and black dress slacks.
On Oct-03-2011, at approximately 3:30 p.m., the complainant reported that three female students reported to him that a man “exposed” himself to several girls on the school’s soccer field in the 14000 block of 1 AV NE ,as they started practice. The male ran off when some of the girls screamed. The suspect was seen getting into a vehicle parked on 1 Av NE just south of NE 145.
The suspect is described as a white male, 30-39 years old, approximately 5 feet- 10 inches tall, thin narrow face, fair complexion, slim build, brown hair, blue eyes, bushy or thick eyebrows, and a goatee. The suspect was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, and black pants.
The suspect was seen driving away in an older, light colored, small 4-door sedan. The first letter of the license plate may be “A”.
Anyone with information about the suspect or vehicle is asked to call 911.
Weather forecasters are forecasting another stormy La Niña winter; attend this class to learn how to be prepared for an emergency! The class is on Tuesday, October 18, 6:30 – 7:45 PM at the Northgate Library, 10548 5th Ave NE.

This interactive and informative program teaches simple steps that don’t take a lot of time or money. You’ll learn that preparedness can be fun and empowering!

Sound Transit is holding public meetings this month about the scoping for mass transit between Northgate (Transit Center) and Lynnwood (196th St SW). The meetings are between 6:00 and 8:00 PM on the following dates:
- Tuesday, October 11, 2011: Shoreline Conference Center, 18560 1st Ave NE, Shoreline
- Thursday, October 13, 2011: Embassy Suites Hotel, 44th Ave W, Lynnwood

Sound Transit is preparing to extend mass transit from Northgate to Lynnwood, which voters approved as part of the Sound Transit 2 Plan in 2008, along with funding to continue planning future service all the way to Everett. The North Corridor Transit Project will connect to and build on the Link light rail line that opened for service between downtown Seattle and Sea-Tac Airport in 2009. Construction is currently underway on a light rail extension to the University of Washington scheduled to open in 2016, followed by service to Northgate targeted in 2021. Voter-approved additions over the next few years will bring 36 new miles of service to the north, south and east, creating a 55-mile light rail system serving the region.
