Pets of Pinehurst: Baby Baxter

Puppies. You gotta love them. My friend and neighbor, Cheryl, introduced me to Harvey and Baxter and now it is my pleasure to introduce them to the rest of Pinehurst.

Harvey has had Baxter since early June when he was just seven weeks old (April 18, 2009) and barely 3 pounds – he’s a Cockapoo adopted from Echo Hills Ranch out of Spokane. Baxter is a bundle of very soft fur who flirts shamelessly with all the people in the neighborhood, particularly his “girlfriend”, the elderly Russian woman that lives next door with her daughter and son-in-law. He loves everyone and everything, except for the cat down the block, Stray Kitty (Stray Kitty isn’t a nice cat).

He’s a smart little puppy, learning “sit” and “stay” almost as soon as he came home. He quickly incorporated “dance” into his bag of tricks. His time is spent sleeping, playing, and trying to steal a bowl of ice cream when he thinks you might not mind overly much.

If you’d like to see your pet featured in Pinehurst Pet of the Week, send your photos and stories about your pet(s) to ehas2dogs@gmail.com. I also wanted to let you know about the generous offer from the Great Dog Shoppe. The Great Dog Shoppe is committed to building community in Pinehurst, if you mention that you read the Pinehurst Pet of the Week in the blog they will give you a free treat for your pet!

Oct 7, 2009 NPAC meeting – Meet the Mayoral Candidates

This North Precinct Advisory Council’s meeting agenda was to meet the mayoral candidates, but only Mike McGinn showed up. Joe Mallahan had a ‘family emergency’ so he sent one of his advisors. The advisor, Harry Bailey, is a well respected, retired, former Seattle Assistant Chief of Police. He was asked to answer our questions as Mallahan would have, but it seemed like he was responding with his own beliefs, which he said he was imparting to Mallahan for consideration. Harry did say that Mallahan’s number one priority is public safety. He is endorsed by Seattle Police Management Association, and Seattle Police Officers’ Guild. You can read his ideas about crime at http://www.joemallahan.com/Issues/Crime.

Mike McGinn took the podium for 45 minutes. At the meeting he said his public safety platform includes 1) enforcement; 2) engagement with the community to solve problems; 3) prevention. Most of his time was spent listening to our questions and concerns. He was eager to hear what our issues are. You can see his stance on public safety here: http://mcginnformayor.com/issues/public-safety/
